Summary
During the Tandil service learning trip we do a variety of hands on projects and some fun activities as well. We stay at an organization called Pajaritos de la Calle, that has been hosting us for over 5 years.
Pajaritos is a day center of academic support and after school sports activities for Tandil children. During the day children from K-12 go to Pajaritos to get breakfast, lunch and merienda. Lincoln students play with them and help out with their homework. "Futbol en la canchita" is our most popular activity. Establishing relationships with them and the rest of the community is our #1 priority. Teachers and students at Pajaritos are extremely welcoming and love having us there. This is also where we eat and sleep: we have lunch with the kids and sleep on their classroom's floors. Pajarito's mums cook for us at night.
Over the years we have painted walls, built playgrounds, volleyball courts, wooden fences, and even a concrete floor! Physical work is a given, but we also take a few short trips around Tandil to cultural sites and hikes.
Our last full day is Adventure's Day: we say goodbye to Pajaritos and spend all day long doing rappelling, zip-lines, hiking and cooking over a fire that you have to make yourself. After a night of reflection/songs next to a bonfire and camping, we return to BA and have a delicious lunch in Epoca de Quesos in the way.
